As you know, the California Building Standards Commission must approve the
greywater code being proposed by DHCD on July 30 before that code can become
part of this state's building code.

As I have explained several times, there is a common misconception that
anyone can attend a BSC hearing and protest and their protest can derail the
BSC's code adoption process.

The factually accurate scenario is that anyone can attend and protest, but
the BSC is legally obligated to adopt that code unless it has been shown
that there is a conflict between an existing building code and the proposed
code.

But that doesn't mean somebody won't try to derail the adoption process this
July 30 with clever arguments. I have seen that some people simply want to
believe the worst about greywater no matter what science or history
confirms. I have seen some of them spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer
dollars to kill legal greywater irrigation while overlooking numerous,
documented, serious environmental health problems in their jurisdiction that
virtually ALL of those taxpayers would rather have their money spent on.

If you want to protect the proposed code, you should attend the BSC hearing
on the 30th and be prepared to inform the BSC about what you understand the
plethora of state building codes to mean that assures them there is no
conflict.

Book your flights and bring your attorney hat.
